12:00 Speak Off Competition
Topic: "How can RCDs help landowners reduce the threat of fires?”
High school students from across the Bay-Delta Region are invited to compete in the regional competition of the 2018 CARCD Conservation Education Speak Off. Each speech will be three to five minutes in length, including the salutation and title. The Bay-Delta Region will award $300, $200, and $100 to the top three speakers. The top speaker will advance to the State Competition in mid-November, and Bay-Delta will cover the travel expenses to San Diego. 1:00 Guided tour from Ted Hall (Long Meadow Ranch) and Jonathan Koehler (Napa RCD) at Long Meadow Ranch’s Rutherford Estate. This property contains 74 acres of winegrapes, 500 varieties of fruits and vegetables, beehives, and egg-laying chickens. Ted collaborated with the Napa RCD and County to secure a USEPA grant to explore restoration strategies for the Bale Slough/Bear Creek watershed. (Tour site is 10 minutes south of the meeting location on your way out of Napa County. Tour is scheduled for 45 minutes. You are welcome to attend all or part of it.)
