Trinity County RCD's Great Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 15, 2020, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM PDT
Category: RCD Events

Join individuals from around the globe for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, this year from February 14th to 17th. Since 1998, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society have been encouraging citizen scientists to contribute to yearly records of bird locations and numbers. This information helps scientists better understand winter bird distributions and migrations.

The Trinity County Resource Conservation District, Trinity River Restoration Program, and Shasta College Foundation are proud to host a local Great Backyard Bird Count expedition on February 15, 2020. This fun, all-ages, no experience necessary event is great way to get outdoors this winter, and it’s free! We will be there rain or shine, but snow cancels event.

From new enthusiasts to old pros, everyone is invited to join us on Saturday, February 15th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the Weaver Basin Wetlands – end of Industrial Park Way in Weaverville.

Birding experts, binoculars, and guidebooks will be available. Light refreshments will be provided. Wear sturdy shoes for walking on uneven ground, and dress appropriately for the weather, including potentially wet conditions.

If you can’t make it on Saturday, but would still like to participate remotely, please visit the Great Backyard Bird Count website at gbbc.birdcount.org. For questions about the local event contact Elizabeth at the Trinity County Resource Conservation District: (530) 623-6004 or [email protected]. You may also email our bird guide, Pat Frost, directly: [email protected]. Hope to see you there!
